Arcanacon 2011

Anyone who’s anyone wants to go to this one! Check out the list of registered players. More importantly, check out the list of people waiting to get in! ( http://www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106262 )

As this is the last Arcanacon run by the WATT (War All The Time) crew and given the prestige and good will that has been built up over the years, each spot is somewhat like the golden ticket in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Or that’s how I see it.

From the site (http://40k.arcanacon.org/)

Arc 40K is the largest single 40K event in the Southern Hemisphere. We’ll have some laffs, drink some beer, listen to some fine death metal and make some WAR! The main 40K tournament is to be held on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 Jan 2011. The judging encompasses Game Play, Sportsmanship, Army Painting & Army Selection.

This really doesn’t emphasise the Arcanacon experience.

If you have a look at the list of players, you will see everyone’s favourite Ratboy. And here’s where we hit a sang. I’ve got three potential armies that I could take.

Chaos Space Marines – The final evolution of my Iron Warriors. My first real Arcanacon was with an Iron Warriors army that employed nine Obliterators. It sucked epically, but it garnered me a level of infamy amongst the Melbourne wargaming scene. The army I put together looks like this:

Chaos Lord - Plasma pistol, Power weapon,
  Personal Icon, Jump Pack
3 Terminators - Lightning Claw & Heavy Flamer,
  Lightning Claw & Combi weapon,
  Chainfist & Stormbolter
7 Marines - Flamer, Aspiring Champion, Powerfist,
  Mark of Chaos Glory
7 Marines - Plasma gun, Aspiring Champion, Power sword,
  Mark of Chaos Glory
7 Marines - Meltagun, Aspiring Champion, Power sword,
  Meltabombs
Obliterators (2)

Obliterators (2)

Witch Hunters – I really put some work into my Sisters Of Battle and quite enjoyed the army apart from it’s foot slogging suckery. So I have re-tooled it a little and it looks like this:

Canoness - Cloak of St Aspira, Jump Pack, Rosarius,
  Inferno Pistol, Eviscerator
10 Sisters - Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Veteran sister,
Eviscerator, Book of St Lucius, Rhino
10 Sisters - Melta, Melta, Veteran Sister,
Eviscerator, Book of St Lucius, Rhino
10 Sisters - Stormbolter, Stormbolter,
  Veteran Sister, Eviscerator
5 Seraphim - Inferno pistols, Inferno pistols,
  Veteran Sister, Eviscerator
Exorcist - Extra armour
Exorcist - Extra armour

Dark Eldar – They’re the new black and all that, but when I was working in Games Worksop retail, the Dark Eldar had JUST been released and I guess it was sort of my first ever real Warhammer 40000 army. I really like the emphasis the new codex has on a fast moving, hit and run army! I also like the idea of hideous experiments unleashed from the the Haemonoculus’ laboritories (as documented elsewhere). So the list looks like:

Haemonoculus Ancient - Webway portal,
  Mindphase Gauntlet, Agoniser
Haemonoculus - Scisscorhand
10 Wracks - Liquifier gun, Acothyst, Agoniser,
  Raider, Flicker Field
9 Wracks - Liquifier gun, Acothyst, Agoniser,
  Raider, Flicker Field
10 Kabalite Warriors - Blaster, Dark Lance
9 Grotesques
5 Reavers - Blaster
5 Reavers - Blaster

So that’s three 1200 point Warhammer 40000 armies. In order of preference, Sisters Of Battle, Chaos Marines, Dark Eldar. In order of work to do, it’s pretty well the same. I can, realistically get the Sisters of Battle and the Chaos Marines finished easily. The Dark Eldar represent a significant amount of work to complete, not un-doable, just challenging to complete.
